Forthcoming Budget Making It Realistic
THE budget for the fiscal year 2062-63 is just around the corner. As usual, pre-budget discussions are being held by experts. They are voicing their opinion that the forthcoming budget should be based on ground realities and targetting the poor people so that their socio-economic status can be uplifted.
Sufferings
The economy of the country has been going through a difficult phase in recent years. The development infrastructure has suffered a lot due to the prevailing law and order situation engendered by the Maoists. The rural people are living a life of fear. Many people in the rural areas have been displaced. This has thrown the rural areas, which are already underdeveloped, into development backwaters.
The present government is committed to improving the lot of the teeming poor. It has already launched some laudable activities. It has vowed to cleanse the administration of corrupt elements that are responsible for sapping the country. The formation of the Royal Commission for Corruption Control is a case in point. The commission has initiated action against several corrupt elements.
Under such circumstances, the forthcoming budget should focus on improving the economy of the country, thus uplifting the socio-economic lot of the majority of the people.
