LET’S rejoice. Year 2005 is not a bad year at all. It has been quite an entertaining and fairly exciting year. Several earth-shaking events and personalities provided drama, action and suspense. The tremors, however, were not devastating enough to topple the Arroyo government. At worst, they fell into the realm of the ridiculous, farcical, comical and fairy tale fantasy.
First, there was the E-Vat hullabaloo that sent thousands of protesters into the streets of Metro Manila demanding the ouster of President Arroyo who they consider is the mother of E-Vat. (Presumably, Speaker De Venecia is its father.)
Then came the much-awaited “Hello Garci” tape congressional circus that sent the opposition bright boys in Congress scratching their arrogant heads over their failure to extract their own concept of truth about the 2004 presidential elections from the man who seemed to have come from outer space–Kenkoyish former Comelec commissioner Virgilio “Garci” Garcillano.
