Biber: Conditions For Introducing Vat Are Still Not Right

The Confederation of BiH Unions thinks that January 1 2006 is not an adequate date for starting the implementation of VAT.

Union leaders think that conditions for starting the implementation of VAT art still not right and that it would be a smart idea to prolong then introduction of this new tax system for June 2006.

“50 million KM for pensioners and other citizens in the state of social needs that will be worst hit by an increase in prices, and whose monthly income does not exceed 200 KM, is not enough considering the fact that almost 178.000 pensioners receive pensions lower than that amount”, Union Vice President Edhem Biber told a press conference in Sarajevo on Thursday.

He added that at least half of the revenue from VAT should be directed towards subsidising pensioners and similar categories, i.e. social programs.

Union President Cedo Volas said that prices of many products could jump by 10 percent, and reminded that prices in certain cities have already increased dramatically.
