Punjab govt slashes VAT on 89 items
The Punjab government today reduced VAT on 89 items including small-sized agricultural implements, hand tools, certain cottage industry products, Sikh religious symbols and stationary items like pencils, erasers, geometry boxes, crayons, painting colours and brushes and even lunch boxes.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the state Council of Ministers held here today. The meeting was presided over by Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.
There will be no VAT on Sikh religious symbols like ‘kara’ (bangle) ,’Kanga’(small comb) and ‘gatras’(small kirpan). Earlier, the VAT on these items was 12.5 per cent.
Likewise VAT on agricultural implements like sickle, spade, plough and ‘kurpa’ too had been reduced from 12.5 per cent to zero per cent.
Likewise VAT on eatables like ‘reori’, ‘gajakas’, ‘misri’ and a few other such items too has been slashed from 12.5 per cent to zero per cent.
