Bail for Donegal man extradited on VAT charges
A Donegal man who became the first person to be extradited from the North to the Republic on Revenue charges just before Christmas has been released on bail at Letterkenny District court.
56 year old sub-contractor Patrick McGonigle Junior who has adresses at Woodlands in Derry, Quiet Water in Muff, and Gleneely was remanded in custody over Christmas on six charges, relating to the incorrect filing of VAT returns believed to involve a substantial amount of money.
When he appeared at Letterkenny District Court today, Mr Mc Gonigle was granted bail with five conditions attached. He must sign on daily at Buncrana Garda Station, surrender his passport and can only live at his son’s home in Donegal.
He is also forbidden to enter Northern Ireland except, for hospital appointments relating to an injury he sustained in a recent shooting incident in Derry. Gardai must be told the dates and times of these appointments.
